Europe's vegetable oil market again saw active rapeseed oil trade on Monday, with buyers taking advantage of lower prices caused by falling US soyabean and soyaoil prices in Chicago, traders said. August/October 2014 delivery rapeseed oil traded at 638 euros and 640 euros a tonne fob ex-mill against 645 euros traded on Friday, when there had also been brisk rapeseed oil demand.

French farmers plan to sow around 1.5 million hectares of rapeseed for next year's harvest, growers group FOP said on Wednesday. The figure is down slightly from the 1.6 million hectares farmers planned to sow a year ago but above the 1.46 million hectares actually harvested in this year's crop.

The French farm ministry on Monday cut its estimate of the area sown with rapeseed for this year's harvest after farmers dug up some crops that had suffered from heavy rain. Analysts have been expecting the fall in area to cost France its place as the European Union's top rapeseed producer this year, with Germany forecast to regain the leading position after enjoying more favourable growing conditions.

Germany's winter rapeseed sown area for the 2013 harvest has been expanded by 9.1 percent on the year to 1.419 million hectares, German oilseeds industry association UFOP forecast on Tuesday. Highly favourable sowing conditions in the autumn drilling period and strong demand for rapeseed meant farmers increased sowings, the association said at an event at the Eurotier agricultural trade fair.
