Pakistan has failed to introduce Kinnow in high-end markets due to non existence of export policy for horticulture sector. Russia to lift ban on kinnow import from Dec 9

KARACHI: In a move aimed at giving green signal for export of kinnow to Russia during December to April of fiscal year 2013-14 from Pakistan, the Russian government will lift the three months ban from December 9, which will allow Pakistani exporters to accomplish a record export target of around 300,000 tonnes.
Exports to Russia stand at 80,000 tonnes worth $56 million. A tonne costs Russia $700 per tonne.

The ban imposed by Iran on the import of Pakistani Kinnow two years back, if not lifted immediately, may inflict a loss of $40 million in terms of revenue, according to All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) spokesman, Waheed Ahmed. Prior to the closure of Iranian market, Pakistan used to export 70 to 80 thousand tons of Kinnow to that country every year.

Pakistan may lose one of its most profitable Kinnow markets, Russian market, and suffer heavily in case Russian government does not rescind its decision by December 1, banning import of fruits and vegetables from Pakistan. The Pakistan government may initiate a dialogue of FTA with Thailand during a visit from the Thai Premier. Talking here on Monday, Ahmed Jawad from Harvest Trading, said being member of ASEAN, Thailand offers a 500 million consumer market to Pakistan as ASEAN by 2015 would be a common market on the pattern of the European market. 1,500 tons of kinnow exported from Multan

As much as 1,500 tons of kinnow left Multan for various destinations this week.
Fruit exporter, Azam Sabri said that it was the first time such a big quantity of kinnow was exported to Dubai, Singapore, UAE, Russia and Bangladesh after passing through the city for treatment, including washing.
