The wheat crop is fully matured in the agricultural plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan while thrashing of the crop has completed in Sindh and southern Punjab. The Met Office on Monday issued advisory for farmers, urged the growers of Sindh and southern Punjab to start storing the wheat grain carefully to maintain its standards for a long time. “Whereas harvesting/threshing of wheat crop has been completed in agricultural plains of Sindh and adjoining areas of southern Punjab,” it said.
It advised the farmers to harvest the full matured crop keeping the expected rainy spell in view. “Wheat obtained after threshing should be stored with proper treatment so that wheat may be kept for long time without any loss due to present and expected moist conditions,” it said.
It said cotton and sugarcane growers should irrigate their crops ahead of expected rains on May 15. It said light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls is expected in most of the agricultural plains of Punjab in the next 10 days, the office said.
Mainly dry weather is expected in Sindh. It said light to moderate rainfall however was expected at isolated places on May 14 and May 15. It said light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall over the hills was expected in most parts of Gilgit-Baltistan during the period. It forecast light to moderate/heavy rainfall over the hilly areas in most parts of Kashmir.
