Senate body discusses working, performance of PCRWR

Standing Committee on Science & Technology on Tuesday met under the Chairmanship of MNA Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema to discuss the working and performance of  in Water Resources (PCRWR).

The Committee appreciated the efforts of PCRWR by introducing the different kind of low east water disinfection tablets used for purification of water and directed the Ministry to approach the relevant provincial departments to provide the same in the rural areas especially in the water scarcity areas like Cholistan, Thar etc which will result in prevention of various chronic diseases including hepatitis etc.

The Committee was of the view that filtration plants had been set up throughout the country however, expressed its concern over the improper maintenance by the provinces and directed the Ministry to evolve a mechanism in consultation with the provincial governments for the proper maintenance of these filtration plants. While discussing various administrative problems being faced by the PCRWR, the committee showed its concern over the non-functioning of Board of Governors and directed the Ministry to take up the matter with the Ministry of Finance to nominate its representative so that the board could be made functional.

Earlier, Zahid Hamid, Minister for S&T briefed the Committee about the detail of the projects of the PCRWR. MNAs including Syed Muhammad Athar Hussain Shah Gillani, Nauman Islam Sheikh, Mrs Shamas-un-Nisa, Ali Muhammad Khan, Dr Imran Khattak, Lal Chand Malhi, Sajid Ahmad, Mehboob Alam, Ms Aliya Kamran, Engr Usman Mien Tarakai attended the meeting besides officials of the Ministry.-PR
