DERA ISMAIL KHAN: In its endeavours to improve access to finance to the farming community, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has been conducting financial literacy and awareness programmes for farmers at grassroots level.
Addressing a one-day ‘Farmers Financial Literacy & Awareness programme on Agricultural Financing’ in collaboration with The Bank of Khyber at District Dera Ismail Khan, Kamran Akram Bakhsh, senior joint director, Agricultural Credit & Microfinance Department, SBP, said that bank’s multi-pronged strategy to increase agriculture credit outreach includes mainstreaming of agriculture finance, removing policy and regulatory impediments, capacity building of commercial banks and information dissemination and awareness campaigns for the farming community.
While highlighting the objective, he said, the programme was aimed at creating awareness among the farming community about agri. financing products & services offered by banks, money management techniques and lending procedures, documentations, etc.
Inaugurating the opening session of the programme, the chief guest, Professor Dr Muhammad Saeed Khattak, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, DI Khan appreciated the efforts of the SBP for arranging awareness programmes on Agriculture financing for the benefit of farmers community.
He added that Pakistan has best agriculture land, irrigation system, and weathers all over the world. He emphasised the farmers to utilise agri. loans in such a way that it would increase your production capacity.
He stressed upon the bankers to increase the volume of agri. loans and provide necessary guidance to the farmers to enable them to overcome their financial and other impediment. The NEWS
