wheat-flour-crisisSindh Government imposed a ban on transportation/movement of wheat and atta from the province towards Afghanistan in order to control its smuggling. This was stated by Sindh Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar while addressing a news conference here on Wednesday. He said wheat procurement target in the province could not be achieved due to mismanagement and corruption during last year which resulted high rates of wheat flour while references in this regard have been moved to NAB and other agencies for legal action.

Jam Mehtab said there is sufficient stock of wheat in Sindh and the preventive measures are being taken to check illegal shifting of the commodity at Sindh-Balochistan borders. He said indiscriminate action is also being taken against people involved in hoarding or black marketing of wheat to ensure required supply of the wheat in the market.

The Minister said action has been taken against the employees of Food Department who were involved in mismanagement in connection with purchase and supply of gunny bags. He informed that food grains licenses of two flour mills have been cancelled for not supplying atta on government’s fixed rates.
