Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) is holding a three-day International Poultry Expo ‘IPEX-2013’ from September 26 to 28, at Expo Centre Lahore which will be inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. This was disclosed by Chief Organiser of the IPEX 2013, Raza Mahmood Khursand while addressing a press conference along with other PPA leaders here on Monday.
Khursand said an accumulated investment of Rs 720 billion had been made in Pakistan’s poultry industry which had an annual turnover of Rs 500 billion and around 1.5 million people were attached with that trade. “Though having marginal share in exports, the industry is set to enter into exports with the coming up of chicken meat processing plants in big numbers.” He hoped that 14-15 new processing players would come to that field in next few years from present two big processors that would also add to the share of processed chicken meat thus leading way to export.
He said IPEX had become an annual feature of the PPA, which was being used for showcasing development of the industry and attracting foreign investors as well as companies, which had introduced new techniques to improve the functioning of this trade. He said President Mamnoon Hussain was likely to attend the second day of the poultry exhibition while federal minister for national food security and research Sikandar Hayat Bosan would visit the mega poultry show on concluding day.
“The show will be attended by about 300 foreign delegates from different countries, over 6000-7000 business entrepreneurs and policy making authorities of the government and around 10,000 general visitors are expected to visit the event daily,” Raza Khursand added. He also claimed that after 9/11, such a huge number of foreign companies or foreign delegates, exhibitors or investors would visit an event like that in Pakistan.
Raza Khursand said PPA was holding the international event regularly since 1998 with the objectives of creating awareness among the farmers as well as the veterinarians to share major developments and progress in different areas of poultry production in the world. The exhibition was also aimed at developing closer ties among all stakeholders of the poultry industry working in different sections of the sectors, he added.
Highlighting the important features of IPEX, he said that exhibition; souvenir disbursement, cooking competition, Umra tickets and lucky draws would be the major events of the poultry show. The events would hopefully educate and fascinate not only the farmers, students, poultry related businessmen and veterinarians but also general public. The three-day expo, which held annually in September, will be a show of vaccine suppliers, feed millers, consultants and breeders companies. Courtesy Business Recorder
