APTMA Sindh-Balochistan zone elections: Businessmen Group fields Tariq for chairman’s post

The Businessmen Group has fielded Tariq Saud for the elections of chairman, APTMA Sindh-Balochistan Zone on Thursday (today) against Waqar Monoo of the Tata Group. Tariq Saud likely to win easily as the Businessmen Group, led by Gohar Ejaz, has already won the Managing Committee elections for the Sindh-Balochistan Zone unopposed. It has also secured key positions, other than office of chairman, APTMA Sindh-Balochistan Zone unopposed.
The Businessmen Group’s candidate also defeated Shahid Tata in the elections of five seats of the Central Managing Committee (CMC) on September 17, 2013. The Businessmen Group has secured 102 panel votes out of total 134 votes in Punjab. In Sindh-Balochistan Zone, the Group has bagged 41 panel votes out of 65 votes. The Businessmen Group has got a total of 143 panel votes countrywide out of 207 valid votes.
It had secured 110 panel votes out of total of 210 votes in previous elections. Shahid Tata has got only 11 panel votes in present elections. Chairman Businessmen Group Gohar Ejaz said the initiatives like energy security and affordability, cotton research, free market mechanism, rationalisation of interest rates, implementation of zero rating Sales Tax regime, market access, sustainability and overall performance of the textile industry are feathers in the cap of Businessmen Group.
According to him, the textile industry exports have reached to $13.1 billion in 2012-13 against $9.5 billion in 2009-10. He said the Businessmen Group has set a target of adding another $13 billion exports in next five years to ensure 10 million jobs further in the country. Gohar said the Businessmen Group has constituted a committee for achieving market access to the EU and US to make Pakistan as a destination of international brands and buyers ahead.
