KBP President disappointed by Prime Minister’s speech

August 21, 2013

kissan-board-pakistanKissan Board Pakistan (KBP) President Sardar Zafar Hussein Khan termed the address of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the nation as disappointing. He said Prime Minister by neglecting agriculture, which is backbone of the economy, has also ruined the hopes of peasants attached with this sector.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he claimed that growers were hoping that the Prime Minister in his first address would announce some subsidy to farmers on electricity, fertiliser, oil and agricultural inputs but no such thing happened. Even developed countries extend subsidy to the agriculture for strengthening the growers but our government either had withdrew the subsidy already being given or reduced it. He said thousands of tube wells were already closed down due to higher electricity and oil prices.

He said, earlier India had created shortage of water by constructing new dams and now releasing water in rivers without intimation. “There was no good news about construction of new dams or any assistance package for flood affectees. The government should immediately bring down electricity, fertiliser and diesel prices and extend assistance to the flood affectees,” Sardar Zafar said. Courtesy Business Recorder
