MULTAN: Punjab agriculture department ignored holding of Cotton Crop Management Group (CCMG) meetings during the cotton season for identifying issues related to cotton crop and adopting strategies to resolve growers’ problems.

The meetings had been organised continuously at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) and chaired by Punjab agriculture ministers for the last 16 years.

Official sources revealed that the meeting was not being organised in the on-going season. They said that meetings were very useful in assesment of crop, disease detecting and other issues related to crop and help formulating strategies how to overcome these problems.

Officials of agriculture department (extension) used to participate in the meeting and they extend effective feedback on the crop.

Local Farmer Iftikhar Ul Hassan talking to APP expressed concern over suspension of useful meetings. He stated that meetings had helped detecting complications regarding cotton crops and also suggested useful proposals and strategies which benefitted the farmers to save the crop from diseases.
