PM made hallmark achievements during China visit: Barjees

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir has said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif made hallmark achievements during his visit to China by signing various agreements to boost economic situation of the country.While talking to APP, the minister said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s top priority is to improve economic situation of the country. He said that Prime Minister signed agreements of Pak-China cross-border Fiber Optic Cable project,up-gradation and realign the Karakoram Highway on fast-track basis, cooperation on solar energy and biogas energy and construction of industrial parks along the Pakistan-China Economic Corridor that would enhance bilateral cooperation.He said that Pakistan and China resolved to promote the policies aimed at advancing the cause of peace, co-operation and harmony creating a win-win situation in the region.Talking about the energy crisis in the country, the minister said that China has assured full support to address the energy problem.
He said to monitor and supervise the progress of the agreements the prime minister has decided to set up a ‘China Cell’ in his office.
Answering a question about Gwadar port, the minister said that the prime minister has expressed his desire to develop Gwadar Port on Hong Kong model and it may be given special status through necessary legislation to ensure speedy execution of the project.
He said that both Pakistan and China agreed to carry out economic and technical cooperation in agriculture, health, education, public transport and other projects to benefit the people of Pakistan.
He said that China will support enterprises for the establishment of industrial zone in Gawadar.
He said that agreements of cooperation including construction of Lahore-Karachi Motorway, Peshawar-Karachi bullet train, technical cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges programmes were signed during the visit of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Both sides also decided to further strengthen the ties of pragmatic cooperation with a view to translating their high-level political relationship into wider economic dividends, he added.
He said the development of PAk-China relations had acquired growing strategic significance in the emerging dynamics of 21st century to deepen the Sino-Pak strategic partnership in the new era.
He said that a major urbanization and technological advancement was underway in the region to unleash enormous potential for regional economic development.
He said economy of the country is top priority of the PML-N as in past hurdles were created in the projects initiated by the Punjab government citing example of Nandi Pur power project.
He said that China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy, enjoying a national consensus.
Ch. Barjees Tahir said,”our friendship with China is higher than the Himalayas, deeper than the oceans and sweeter than honey.”
He said that a agreements of energy generation in Northern Areas were also signed during the Nawaz Sharif visit.
He said that PML-N created history by signing agreements with China which were not signed during last 60 years.
Talking about completion of these projects minister said “we have no time to prolong the things and hopefully we will complete these projects as soon as possible”.
