DASKA : Rice would be sown over 42.68 lakh acres during Kharif season in various paddy areas of the province.
Sources in Agriculture Department told APP on Wednesday that 3.77 lakh acres of land would be under paddy cultivation in Sialkot, Pasrur, Daska and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district during Kharif season.
Tehsil wise target of paddy sowing is: Daska 93000 acres, Pasrur 1.19 lakh acres,Sialkot 1.11 lakh and Sambrial 54000 acres acres.
Sources said Agriculture department has initiated training programme for paddy growers with the objective to enable them meet the targets.
Recommended varieties of rice are super Basmati, Basmati-385, Basmati-2000, Basmati-515, Basmati-370, Basmati Pak and Shaheen Basmati etc which would help attain maximum yield of the crop and well as good quality rice for export purpose.
The Agriculture department has advised growers to use only “recommended” and authenticated paddy seeds and pesticides for obtaining “quality” and maximum per acre yield in Punjab, sources added.
Local agriculture department has already completed farmers’ training in 1442 villages of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district.
Experts have directed paddy growers to refrain from transferring plants from nurseries to their respective fields before June 20 in order to reap good yield of the crop. AFP
