River Kabul in high flood at Nowshera

The River Kabul is in high flood with 1,03,000 cusecs running water at Nowshera as water flow in the four live rivers continues to rise following increase in temperature in the upper regions of the country, water and weather reports of Sunday said. According to Wapda’s 26th May water report 1,37,000 cusecs water is flowing in the mighty Indus river at Tarbela showing an increase of 15,000 cusecs during past twenty four hours.
Similarly, water level in the river Kabul rose from 97,000 to 1,03,000 cusecs at Nowshera near the Attock bridge on the G T Road significantly augmenting water supply in the mighty Indus downstream the Chashma Barrage towards the Sindh province.
The Indus River System Authority is releasing 80,000 cusecs water from the Tarbela dam for hydel power generation and irrigation of Kharif crops, whereas it is retaining 57,000 cusecs water in the belly of the reservoir. The water level in the dam rose by 8ft in two days.
The water regulatory body has decreased water releases from the Mangla dam on river Jhelum to the level of 32,000 cusecs to fill at least 80 percent capacity of the upgraded dam before 30th June as sufficient quantities of water are available in the other live rivers Indus, Kabul and Chenab.
The Meteorological department said that rain/thunderstorm occurred at scattered places in Upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while at isolated places of Islamabad and upper Punjab.

Sharif, Pattan 12, Jhelum and Garidopatta 10., Pattan-08, Islamabad Z/P-07, Mirkhani-06, Hunza-05, Drosh, Islamabad A/P & Mangla-04 (each), Kalam-03, Chitral-02, Peshawar city and Johrabad-01 (each), D I Khan, Sargodha, Mandibahauddin, Sialkot and Gujrat-Trace.

Fairly wide spread thunderstorm/rain with gusty winds is likely to occur over Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Hazara, Islamabad, Rawalpindi divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Scattered dust thunderstorm/ rain with strong winds may occur over Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore divisions.
Isolated dust thunderstorm/ rain associated with gusty winds may occur over Bannu, Kohat, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions. During the period hailstorm would occur at a few places. While mainly hot and dry weather is expected over rest of the country.
