Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) have so far procured over one million tons of wheat during its on going wheat procurement target 2013 against its total procurement target of 1.6 million tons. Sources of the corporation said on Thursday that distribution of gunny bags is also in the full swing and all out steps have been taken to facilitate and accommodate the small growers during this operation.
The corporation has advised the growers to bring their produce at the procurement centers as soon as possible to obtain benefit of disposing off their grain on government support price. Passco Managing Director (MD) Major General Tauqeer Ahmed visited Multan, Lodhran, Bahawalnager, Khanewal and Vehari zones and monitored the wheat procurement activities on spot. In this context, he instructed Passco staff accordingly on different aspects of procurement.
According to assessment of Passco management, it is also expected that the price of wheat will fall after achieving of targets by government’s organisations for which the growers will have to bear losses who have held their crop with a view to achieve high prices in future. MD instructed Passco staff regarding better storage and care of the new procured wheat so that the same should be prevented from pest infestation and inclement weather. Business Recorder
