PFD purchases 1.331 tons of wheat

Punjab Food Department (PFD) had so far purchased over 1.331 million tons of wheat under its wheat procurement drive for the year 2013 against a target of buying 4 million tons. PFD sources told us on Friday that the wheat procurement had reached almost its peak as the procurement centers set across the province recorded purchase of 181,236 metric tons on Thursday.
While so far the department had distributed gunny bags sufficient to pack 2,299,883MTs of wheat. It distributed gunny bags for 11,376MTs of wheat on Thursday. Meanwhile, Director Food Punjab Usman Younus has said that maximum price of 20kg Atta bag has already been fixed at Rs 670 in the open market through out the province, which will be implemented at all costs.
He said this while presiding over a meeting convened for regarding flour prices. Deputy Director Food Lahore Region Malik Muhammad Hussain Khokhar and other officers concerned were present on this occasion. Director Food said that monitoring teams have been constituted for ensuring the provision of Atta at the price fixed by the government and its availability in the market in abundance which will be authorised to check the quality of Atta and take strict action against the flour mills and shopkeepers selling the Atta at more than the fixed price.
