Pakistan has fabulous agriculture sector: Canadian Envoy

MULTAN: Canadian High Commissioner Greg Giokas said Pakistan had a fabulous agriculture sector and they had highly paid jobs in their country for well-educated agriculturists. “Pakistan has a fabulous agri sector which is perhaps spending 20 per cent of their GDP in it where as we spend 3 per cent of our GDP. We have highly paying jobs in the sector for which we need highly educated people,” said Mr Greg Giokas while addressing a meeting of representatives of business community of South Punjab at Shamim Committee Room of MCCI here on late Tuesday evening. http://zaraimedia.com/
He added that they encouraged women economic empowerment and they needed to be involved for boasting economy.
“We offer small scale projects women entrepreneurs.” Appreciating Canadian Pakistan Community, the envoy said that about 300,000 Pakistanis were living in Canada and they were contributing positively towards the Canadian economy.
He stressed the need to focus on education for growing economy of Pakistan.
“Number one challenge is education for Pakistan,” the high commissioner said and added that people wanted to send their children to school when they were financially stable. http://zaraimedia.com/
Replying a question on Canadian visa problem, Mr Giokas stated “ We are the most difficult” as their system was difficult,however, it was being improved.
He informed that their embassy was setting up visa centres in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad soon for convenience of visa seekers.
The high commissioner facilitated the business community for free,fair and transparent election process in Pakistan as it was very important for growing economy.
President Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Muhammad Khan Sadozai in his welcome address said that Pakistan and Canada enjoyed cordial relation with each other and strong traditions of friendship.
He said economic ties between the two countries developing with very fast pace, however, agriculture,power,oil& gas needed to be exploited to strengthen the cooperation of both the countries. http://zaraimedia.com/
Sadozai urged the high commissioner to establish their commercial office at Multan and opening up Canadian corner at MCCI library.
