116 persons booked for fake pesticides business

Pest Warning and Quality Control Wing (Pesticides) of the Punjab Agriculture Department collected 10,691 samples of pesticides during the year 2012-13, and registered cases against 116 persons on being involved in business of fake/adulterated pesticides. This was informed to Caretaker Provincial Agriculture Minister Qaiser Zulfikar Khan during a departmental briefing here on Monday. He was informed that the department also arrested 52 people out of the total 116 against whom cases were registered.

It was also informed that the department’s efforts against fake/adulterated pesticides was a continuous campaign and that year it confiscated 128,000 kilogram/litre fake pesticides worth Rs 19 million. It was also informed that 255 places were raided by the department since 2008 till date and confiscated fake pesticides worth Rs 435 million.

Caretaker Punjab Agriculture Minister urged the officers of the department to make all out efforts ensuring provision of quality medicines to the growers. He said strict action should be taken against those involved in that heinous business, adding that growers should be provided full guidance to save the coming cotton crop from white fly and other dangerous pests.
