Technical training to growers: floriculture business made profitable

The Punjab Agriculture Department is taking important steps to ensure sowing of flowers on commercial basis and making floriculture as a profitable business through imparting technical training to the growers. This was stated by the Special Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iqbal Muhammad Chohan while speaking at a ceremony held at the Agriculture House here on Saturday.

The Provincial Secretary said that ample opportunities exist for expansion and development in this sector in our country and the Punjab government allocated Rs 21.60 million to launch a project for promoting sowing of commercial flowers in the suburban areas of Lahore.

He said such projects can be useful in earning precious foreign exchange through promotion of floriculture and imparting technical training to our manpower. It will also help improving the landscape, he added. He also distributed certificates amongst the 139th training course conducted by the Directorate of Floriculture Punjab. In all 36 male and female attended this training course.

Director Floriculture Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz speaking on this occasion said that it has arranged 130 such courses till date which helped training 3,295 men and women from different walks of life. The course was participated by the employees of the Punjab Agriculture Department, PHA, Civil Society, Private Companies and representatives of NGOs. He said that Directorate of Floriculture conducts different courses spreading over 15 days to one year duration. Source Business Recorder
