Scholarships for Area Agriculture Students Offered by County Fair
The Flower Show Scholarship Fund is for local high school grads interested in agriculture, in amounts that range from $250-$2,500.
Each year, the Sonoma County Fair is pleased to award scholarships to students currently pursuing studies in agriculture. Applications are open to any student whose family resides in Sonoma or Marin Counties and are currently being accepted through the end of May.
Eligible students must have graduated from high school and already be attending or plan to attend either the Santa Rosa Junior College or a four-year university to be considered.
Completed applications are due in the Entry Office at the Sonoma County Fair by 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 31. Applicants will be judged on neatness and completeness of application, and four-year university applicants will also be judged on their oral interview. Applicants will be pre-screened, with the top finalists contacted for in-person interviews on June 18. Scholarships will be awarded in amounts that range from $250-$2,500.
The Flower Show Scholarship Fund is generated through ticket sales from Sonoma County Fair’s Annual Flower Show Preview event, which will be held on Wednesday, July 24.
This prestigious event offers guests an exclusive sneak peak at the spectacular Hall of Flowers creation before the building is open for public viewing. The evening includes Hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and a chance to meet Hall of Flowers’ creator Greg Duncan, plus this year’s professional garden award winners. This year’s Flower Show theme is “Backyard Blossoms” and is sure to impress.
Applications may be picked up at the Sonoma County Fair Entry Office or at the Santa Rosa Junior College Agriculture Department. Forms can also be downloaded at www.sonomacountyfair.com. For questions, call (707) 545-4203 or email email@example.com.
