My soil ph is too high

How can I bring it back down to the optimum ph range? The addition of alkaline materials such as lime, poultry manure or wood ashes to the soil can raise the pH value to levels which are higher than the optimum range (5.8 to 6.5 for most plants) to insure good plant growth. This will occur if excessive a mounts of these materials are added to a soil either all at once or over a long period of time. For plants that thrive best in the pH range of 5.8 to 6.5, soil pH values above 6.5 can…

How to Lower Your Soil pH

In a nutshell: Your best option is to add organic matter and grow plants that do well in alkaline soils. The whole story: Technically, all soils with a pH higher than 7.0 are alkaline, or "sweet," but most garden plants tolerate a pH up to about 7.5. Alkaline soils are generally composed of basic (high pH) parent materials such as limestone (calcium carbonate). High-pH soils are more prevalent in arid climates, because rainfall does not leach the calcium and other basic materials out of…

Estimation of Combining Ability for the Development of Hybrid Genotypes in Helianthus annuus L.

Sunday, 24 March 2013 *Corresponding author’s email: shehzadpbg@gmail.com ABSTRACT Plant materials were developed by L×T crossing fashion of nine lines and four testers and their thirty six hybrids were sown in field during 2011 in RCBD design with three replications. Genetic variability, general and specific combining abilities among genotypes was assessed under the research area of department of plant breeding and genetics, university of agriculture, faisalabad, Pakistan. Wheat Harvesting season 2013

March 24, 2013 Wheat is harvested in the summer months when planting has occurred in spring or winter. The moisture content of the wheat is a big deciding factor on when exactly the wheat is harvested. If dry wheat is left out in the field too long, winds and storms can destroy the crop. Should the wheat dry, then get wet from rain and dry again, this process decreases the quality of the wheat. Due to the delicate nature of dry wheat, keep an eye on the fields when moisture content…

Commodities rocked by Cyprus crisis

March 24, 2013 Many global commodity markets fell last week as traders worried that the Cyprus situation would reignite the eurozone's sovereign debt crisis and dent global demand for raw materials. "Gold prices have firmed as events in Cyprus have unfolded this week, but the base metals complex and oil prices have come under pressure," said Barclays analyst Suki Cooper. "A recovery in…

Mills cut flour price

March 24 2013 Aamir Shafaat Khan KARACHI: Flour mills have started reducing prices in view of persistent fall in wheat rates in the open market after a robust new crop. However, the cut does not reflect the sharp decline in the price of wheat. At the retail level, flour varieties are generally selling at old rates despite a substantial fall in wheat prices. Bread manufacturers too, who had raised prices in January this year citing hike in flour prices, are yet to announce a…

Water availability key to enhancing agriculture yield
