Agriculture ministry upgrades possible wheat exports from Ukraine in 2012-13 to 6.1 million tonnes

Ukraine this agriculture year (July 2012 – June 2013) could export 6.1 million tonnes of wheat, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has said.

“At present, taking into account grain stocks shipped to grain warehouses and the state of winter crops for the 2013 harvest, the approximate exports of wheat was upgraded to 6.1 million tonnes, using a balanced approach to the formation of internal resources of grain which does not threaten Ukraine’s food security,” reads the report of the ministry.

Earlier the export potential of the country for wheat for the current agricultural year was assessed at 5.8 million tonnes.

According to data from the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, Ukraine in 2012 harvested 15.7 million tonnes of wheat with ending stocks as of July 1, 2012 at 5.3 million tonnes. As of early January 2013, wheat stocks in the country stood at 8.6 million tones.
