UVAS, EF sign MoU
LAHORE: (January 10, 2012): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Engro Foundation (EF) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build the capacity of female livestock extension workers for the welfare of the farmers’ community.
The MoU was signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and EF Project Director Dairy Value Chain by USAID Ramzan Buriro here Thursday. The primary purpose of this memorandum of understanding is to engage both institutions in collaborative and cooperative efforts to address women empowerment through livestock development to reduce the poverty.
The major areas of collaboration include capacity building of the female livestock extension workers in nine districts of Punjab and Sindh. The university would provide all-out technical and hands-on training to the EF extension workers so that they perform their services for the welfare of the livestock.
The EF project director dairy value chain said that such a partnership would resolve the small farmer’s problems and improve their economics. He lauded the UVAS’s leading role in contributing to the agro-economy and making utmost efforts to uplift the poultry, dairy and extension services in this regard.
The Vice-Chancellor said that livestock sector was growing at an unprecedented level in dairy and poultry sectors due to its importance. He said that there was huge gap between supply and demand to bring positive changes to the farm economics. He said that the partnership of the two organizations would bring closer academia and industry.
