Basis bids for hard red winter wheat were steady in the US Plains on Wednesday, with the pace of business picking up on the first business day of 2013 and after lawmakers reached a fiscal deal, dealers said. The US Department of Agriculture’s monthly crop progress report on Monday showed that only 24 percent of the winter wheat crop in Kansas was in good to excellent condition.
The winter wheat crop got a mild boost from heavy snowfall in the Central Plains and portions of the west and southern Midwest over the past couple of days.
