Rs one billion for 53 research projects (PARB)

Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) has provided funds of Rs one billion for 53 research projects on high priority under Competitive Grant System during last three years. This was disclosed in 28th Board meeting of PARB here on Thursday. Meeting was chaired by the Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali.

The Board also examined outcomes of the evaluation report of 13 randomly selected PARB funded projects and expressed satisfaction on the evaluation of these projects. The evaluation was conducted by a committee exclusively constituted by the Board comprising of third party experts. It was also said that these projects are now at the verge of commercialisation phase.

The Board also decided to give high priority to research projects aimed on productivity enhancement of Gram, development of quality vaccines against fatal livestock animal diseases and control of quick decline disease of Sheshum (Dilberjia sisso). To finalise projects on these high priority research areas, a committee comprising of Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Vice Chancellor, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore and chief conservative officer, Forest Department was also constituted by the Board. The committee will submit its recommendations for approval from the Board in the light of evaluation of Technical Working Group (TWG) constituted on these projects.

Addressing the meeting Minister for Agriculture Punjab said that Punjab Agriculture Research Board is an important entity engaged in research planning, monitoring, co-ordination and commercialisation of projects. Member Punjab Assembly, Shah Jahan Bhatti, Secretary Agriculture, Waseem Mukhtar, Secretary Forest and Fisheries, Shah Nawaz Badar, Vice Chancellor Agriculture University Faisalabad, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Chief Executive PARB, Dr Mubarik Ali, Additional Secretary (Admin) Agriculture Department, Ameer Khatak, Assistant Chief (Planning & Development), Muhammad Baqar Mufti, Director General Agriculture (Research), Dr Noor ul Islam, Director Agricultural Information Punjab, Muhammad Rafiq Akhtar, executive members of PARB and representatives of Finance Department were also present in the meeting.
