M’banza Kongo — About 2000 hectares of land have been prepared in the whole of Zaire Province for the 2012/2013 agricultural season, in which will be involved 5,800 peasants.
This was revealed last Friday in Wene locality, Tomboco Municipality, by the head of Zaire Province’s agriculture and rural development department, João Domingos.
The hectares for cultivation are located in the municipalities of Tomboco, Mbanza Kongo, N’zeto, Soyo, Nóqui and Kuimba, which have been prepared in the ambit of the Rural Expansion and Development Programme (PDR).
João Domingos also informed that his institution has 30 tons of maize seeds that have been donated by the Agrarian Development Institute (IDA), whose quantities will be increased by the provincial government, including some other agricultural inputs.
The official opening ceremony of the agricultural season, which took place in Wene locality, was chaired by the provincial governor, José Joanes André, who on the occasion handed six tractors to the peasants, besides other implements.
