Assistance to be provided to flood-hit farmers: minister

Punjab Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali has said that all possible assistance would be provided to the farmers, whose crops were destroyed due to recent torrential rains and floods in South Punjab.
He stated this in a high-level meeting held at the committee room of Punjab Assembly today. The meeting was attended by Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab, Dr Anjum Ali, Director General Agriculture, Dr Noor-ur-Islam, Director General Agriculture, Dr Abid Mehmood, Director Cotton Research Institute, Fayyaz Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner, Melsi, Natiq Hussain, Chief (P&D), Shahzad Sabar, EDO Agriculture, Vehari and Revenue Department, representatives of farmers organisations and farmers of affected areas.
Minister Agriculture said that complete survey of the affected areas would be made, under the leadership of concerned DCOs, and the farmers would be extended prompt help and assistance after reviewing the damages caused by floods. Minister Agriculture informed the meeting that a committee has been constituted on directions of Punjab Chief Minister, which is headed by him, consisting of representatives of agriculture experts, Irrigation Department, Revenue, Agriculture and District Government Departments which would submit its reports after surveying affected areas on priority basis and farmers would be provided assistance in the light of the survey report.
