October 24, 2012: Farmers are advised to harvest Kharif crops, including cotton in time so that sowing of Rabi crops, especially wheat may become possible without delays, Met office has said. The office in its 10-day advisory urged the farmers of Barani areas to remove weeds to prepare fields for incoming Rabi crops. “Farmers are advised to cultivate winter vegetables in time so that present soil moisture may fully be utilised,” it said.

It said the most suitable time for sowing of wheat crop is October 25 to November 10 to get the optimum yield for the agricultural lands of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhunkhwa. It said weather in Punjab, Khyber Pakhunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan is expected to remain dry till October 32.

However, isolated rain/thunderstorm is expected in the upper parts of Khyber Pakhunkhwa and Potohar region of Punjab on October 28 and October 29. Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive light rain/thunderstorm at isolated places during the week. Dry weather is expected to remain in most parts of the region till October 31, the Met office said.
