Wheat rates hike: flour prices increased by Rs 25 per 20kg bag

August 19, 2012: Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), Punjab Chapter has announced to increase the price of 20 kilograms flour bag by Rs 25 from Sunday claiming the step is result of hike in the wheat prices in open market. Now the new price of the 20kg will be Rs 610 per bag instead of Rs 585 per bag.
Decision to this effect was taken at an emergent meeting of the association held on Saturday. In an addition to increase announced today, the officials of PFMA will again met on August 28 to discuss the increase in wheat prices and other factors to decide further upward revision in flour rates. The PFMA Punjab office-bearer decided to increase the price due to increased rate of wheat, which crosses Rs 1,100 per 40kg in open market.

“The rate increase was inevitable to survive as it is not possible for flour mills to supply flour at old rates any more”, said former PFMA Central President Asim Ahmad Raza while talking to media persons after the meeting. Flour mills provide flour during Ramazan at Rs 480 20kg bag as per Ramazan Package. The actual price of 20kg bag is Rs 585 the same bag will now be available at Rs 610 from Sunday (today).

The association was demanding an ex-mill price of Rs 625 for the past many months; they claimed that the increased support price of wheat, along with increased utility bills, diesel prices and energy crisis have made merely impossible for them to sustain current flour prices.
